So, let's get this staining party started. This is the day after the big sanding of the cabinets and now that we spent a few hours cleaning up the mess, we can start the staining.
It actually went faster than you might think. Nearly a full hour to go from start to finish per coat of stain color and then 4 hours minimum dry time. But we had only had three coats of color to do in order to get the right shade Megan wants.
But, at least we have a valve that we can connect to when we get the new oven. On to new things? I am already looking at paint colors for the interior. Can't wait to get some of this stuff done. Even though Justin would like to make sure that we finish everything related to the cabinets first...
So I did end up getting some paint. Since the drywall is now done, we are at least going to start priming the walls to hide nasty green and red paint that was there before. I know you have seen a lot of the kitchen red, but here is a reminder of the green in the hallway.
Yes, it's done. A full Sunday (starting after noon and sleeping in and a morning work out ;p ) We put primer on the kitchen and hallway and on the drywall repairs in the bathroom. Just to make sure that the new texture doesn't melt away when we use the shower. Man, it was a pain to get the primer on. It looked really thin the first coat, so we went ahead and did a second. Worlds of difference in how bright it is in the kitchen and hallway now. I think the rest of the pain in the house should be OK with just the new paint that we choose, but we'll have to see what that turns out to be. Also, I might point out that the cabinets look so much better without the really dark red in the background. I like it.
So by now we have them stained and sealed. The drawers and the shelves are all done and re-papered, but the doors are going to take a bit longer. All of the contours in them are making sanding a pain. Well, no sense in putting off other projects that can go on. We pulled out the oven to get access to the gas line and called in a plumber. After the work, we still needed to patch the wall and did our cooking on the ground. Nothing really new or exciting.
