The Kitchen Cabinets...

So, now on to the kitchen cabinets. Man, this turned out to be a longer project than anticipated. Well, we started with the door and drawers first. Once Justin got that going, Megan started on preping the actual cabinets in the kitchen. Here's the work area. Justin does all of the sanding out in the garage. After doing the two bathroms, Justin insisted on getting ear muffs and a filter mask for the kitchen cabinets. Also, we found out after two tries with one electric palm sander brand that it might actually be worth a $40 model and not the $20 model. The Home Depot attendant recommended a brand to us; no complaints so far. (Knock on wood every time you read this! I don't want anything breaking. ;p )

So, since we are working with cabinets in the kitchen, how easy is it to remove that old oven insert? Let's find out. Well, it was pretty easy once all of the screws were found, but what's that behind it?!?

Turns out that the home was built with a gas line right to the oven, but never used. So the good news is that when we replace our oven with the awesome cool model that we want, it can be a gas oven. Justin swears it cooks better, but I have yet to agree... We'll have to get a plumber in here to put a valve on that so we can use it.

Well, the gloss coat is off of the cabinets; ready for Justin to start sanding. It will have to wait until the weekend though so that we have all day to make just one mess and not spread it out over the week days.

Partly done at this point with the sanding...but while working on preping the cabinets for the sanding and re-finishing; we had a drywall contractor come in and take care of all the repairs needed in the house. After all the settling, there were some drywall cracks and some poped tap and nails that needed repairing. Justin wanted to do the project, but we had a recommendation for a guy that would work really cheap. It turns out he did and did pretty darn good work for the price.

Now that all of the dry wall is repaired, we can start preping the paint and getting rid of the all the horrific colors that were used in the house. That will be a big improvement when we get that part done.

So, the glass company that was working on the master bathroom shower door finally had the tile guy come out. He was able to find some peices that were close, but no cigar in matching our white marble around the door jam to the shower. So we put our foot down and said that we want once that match. That means more wating while he sees if he can find a better match.

Back to the subject of this posting, YES, Justin finished sanding all of the kitchen cabinets in one go. That was quite the project for a Friday night. After coming home from work, Justin jumped right in and worked on the cabinets until 10:30 pm. Glad to be done with that mess.

WHAT A MESS! You would not believe the amount of sawdust all over Justin. Thank goodness for the dust mask he used.
