So Justin and I decided to try for a garden this year. We have a big side yard that has so far been useless. This is both of our first garden so we don't have much idea what we are doing. I have asked a bunch of people at work as well as doing some reading and asking some people at work. We started by collecting ~1500lbs of manure from the horse stable up the road. Then we (mostly Justin) tilled it in with our soil.
We planted four types of berry bushes, two types of raspberries, one for just eating, the other for preserves. We won't get any fruit from those for 2 years though. Also a blueberry bush and a boysenberry bush. We should get some fruit from those this year.

We also planted a veggie garden. We planted tomatoes, sugar snap peas, yellow, green, and purple bell peppers, spinach, swiss chard, collard greens, and strawberries. Flagstaff gets frost until June so you either have to wait to plant or use something to protect the plants. The green tepee looking things are walls of water. They act like mini greenhouses, they protect the plants and open as they grow. So fingers crossed. We'll see how this goes....
