So, what has happened since November? Good question, first let's start with that things kind of stalled out for a bit. It seemed like we were just looking and looking at what to do next, where to get what, which part was the best deal... and weren't getting anything DONE. Well, Thanksgiving came and went, we had a great time in Cincinnati visiting the extended Meyer family and going to a friends wedding. That helped us figure out how we want to do some things at our wedding. After that, we put the nose to the grind stone, made several plans for the wedding, and started the ball rolling on the house again. We started by putting 20 bags, or about 4 inches of insulation in the attic just before the first snow. I think we are already seeing the benefits.
On to the kitchen. We had to take overview photos and make some drawings of our kitchen for our counter tops. A work friend from W.L. GORE has a relative who installs counter tops, so we are able to get a good deal and move forward with purchasing new granite counter tops. This will be one
of the first jobs done completely by a contractor. Hopefully we will be showing the new counter tops by the end of the second week in January.

In order to make the estimates, the contractor for the counter tops came up from Phoenix and created a template of the the
pieces of
granite to make from the slabs. So, the existing back splash
had to be removed to show the true counter top measurements.

So, demolition of the back splash in the kitchen was done by Megan while Justin started the process of creating a tile counter top in the master bathroom. It will eventually match the slate floor.

Hey look! Found the gas line behind the drywall above the stove.

Can't believe how hard it was to take off the old back splash. Oh, other news. We finally got some headway with the shower door! The glass company came in with another tile contractor after firing the first one. An
assessment was made by the new contractor and basically an all around screwed up job (putting it nicely) was done. Two options, re-do the tile again, or have a slightly smaller door put in. The glass company decided to support (fund) the door option. Now we have one! Yes, we can use our awesome shower. Only took 6 months.

And the week goes one, Justin is keeping at the MB vanity counter top. Lots of layers to make, plywood, plastic, cement back board, then of course the mortar and tiles...

Halfway there, once the counter top surface sets, we can add a back splash in here.

See the layers? The tape is to hold the side tiles in place while they set.

Let's see, another interesting part, drilling holes for the faucets. Those are only 1 1/4 inch in diameter. Justin tried to use a tile drill bit and then use a special wire saw, but that took...I don't know, three
hours and only one hole done. So, in an effort to save time, I stopped by Home Depot on the way home one day and bought a special hole drilling bit that combines the saw and drill bit functions. Justin went out into the garage and came back in 15 minutes with all of the holes drilled with this new tool. Well worth it!

More layers. That's it for now. We are pretty close to getting the back splash done today and have our new sinks on order. The new faucets are purchased. We are moving the hand towel racks from the guest bath to the master and buying a real bath towel rack for the guest bath. So, when the tile is all done, we can just install the sinks and get going. Yea!!
Your sinks are going to look awesome. I can't wait to see them. And thanks for not blaming my bathroom floor for the long delay in work at your place.
